CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
Born on 8 May 1926, Sir David Attenborough is a world-renowned broadcaster and natural historian, best known for his extraordinary work with the BBC. Throughout his remarkable career,he has pioneered broadcasting technology, holds the record for the longest career as a natural historian, and has had more than 40 species named in his honour. For generations, Sir David has been the voice of nature, bringing the wonders of our planet into homes across the world.
Even as he celebrates his 100th year, he continues to champion environmental conservation through his documentaries and projects, including Wild London, Kingdom and Secret Garden.
At Sam's Sunflowers, Sir David's work is especially close to our hearts. We are passionate about encouraging people to reconnect with nature, whether that's wandering through our sunflower fields, exploring the maize maze, or discovering the incredible wildlife that calls Hayling Island home.
We were incredibly honoured to welcome Sir David to Stoke Fruit Farm on Hayling Island in 2020 while filming the BBC series Green Planet, which was released in January 2022. It was a privilege to watch him share the story of Hayling Island's rich and diverse habitats, and it's a memory we'll treasure forever.
We're also proud that Sir David chose our farm as the location for his very first Instagram post—a video that has since been viewed by more than 18 million people. Knowing that our little corner of Hayling Island helped introduce Sir David to a new generation of viewers is something we'll always be immensely proud of.This year's maize maze is our way of celebrating Sir David's extraordinary legacy. We hope it inspires visitors of all ages to explore, learn, and develop the same curiosity and appreciation for nature that he has shared with the world for the past century.

The maize is not the most accessible for those who need mobility aids, this is a farming field so expect the ground to be uneven - suitable footwear advised
2 Mazes allow for people of all ages to take part in navigating the twists and turns. For little legs, we recommend the Bucky the Mule mini maze
Maps and game cards are available for both the mini and mega maze, whether or not you choose to use them is up to you! See below for our game levels
